The Old Smiddy
Blacksmith’s Forge and Art Gallery
Contemporary and Traditional Ornamental Metalwork
Nestled in The Square, in the picturesque village of Blair Atholl, Perthshire, The Old Smiddy Blacksmith’s Forge and Gallery is an authentic 19th Century Granite Smiddy that has been lovingly restored by Artist Blacksmith James Adams. As well as the original time-honoured stone hearth, it boasts a fully modernized workshop. A range of beautifully crafted Ornamental and Functional Metalwork is created here, from traditional items such as Candlesticks, Furniture, Gates and Railings, to Contemporary and unusual Sculpture that can be viewed and bought in the adjoining Art Gallery, where a window between The Old Smiddy Workshop and the Art Gallery allows you to look on in and watch the Artist at work practising the Craft of the ancient Art of Blacksmithing.
Colleen had been resident Artist Blacksmith at the Old Smiddy in Blair Atholl for almost two years but has now moved on to the Old Smiddy at Gallin farm on the Meggernie Estate in Glenlyon. This is also a 19th Century Smiddy that had not been used for at least 30 years. We have spent couple of months re-commissioning this workshop, and the ringing of the anvil is once again heard there! We will soon be posting photos of the workshop and surrounds. Colleen is still happy to take on commissions, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch with your ideas.
